If you’re aiming to become a licensed child care director, NICCM’s National Administrator Credential (NAC) is a proven and efficient pathway, formally approved as fulfilling the requirements for the Texas Director Credential by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). Here’s how to navigate the licensing process and why our NAC program stands out.

Understanding Texas Director Credential Requirements

The HHSC Child Care Regulation outlines specific qualifications for directors of licensed childcare centers serving 13 or more children:

  • Must be at least 21 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED
  • Need 2 years of experience in a licensed early childhood setting
  • Combine education and training, including completion of an approved Director Credential program

Accepted educational options include:

2 years of documented experience in a licensed early childhood setting is mandatory for both options. 1 year of experience is required if the director holds a bachelor degree with 12 college credit hours in child development and six college credit hours in management.

This flexibility allows candidates to choose the path that fits their career goals, whether it’s basic classroom credentials or full administrative training.

NICCM’s NAC: Meeting the Requirements For The Texas Director Credential

NICCM’s National Administrator Credential is fully recognized by Texas HHSC as fulfilling the requirements for the Director Credential in the state. With expert-led content focused on early childhood administration, budgeting, staffing, compliance, and leadership, our NAC reduces the certification burden for future directors.

Choose between:

  • Live NAC training: a 2.5‑day intensive led by seasoned administrators
  • Distance Learning NAC: flexible, web-based training with manual and video access

All participants receive instructional materials, interactive sessions, and exam prep resources. When combined with your experience, NICCM’s NAC completes the HHSC requirements and positions you as an eligible childcare director.
